TV Ape - video installation for Lightdome 2. exhibition
"TV Ape", a posthumanist rework of Nam June Paik’s 50-year-old, most iconic and influential video art installation of the 20th century, "TV Buddha", introduces a life-size gorilla in place of the Buddha, reflecting on its own live image on a CRT screen through a live-feed CCTV camera.
The installation extends the original with a soundtrack of gorilla sounds mediated through electronic music.
This homage not only echoes the original concept of "TV Buddha" but, by shifting its subject, raises new questions about humanity’s narcissism, technology, progress, evolution, self-reflection, presence, control, and time.
